Hydroboracite
Many collectors told Alex this was the best thumbnail example of the species, particularly for its superb development, bevelled edges, and gemminess. An exceptional 1.7 x 2.8 x 0.7 cm transparent colorless single crystal. This magnesium calcium hydrate of boron is awesomely rare in fine crystals and came from just a few discoveries, with this 2012 find being the most noted. It is from Cal Graeber (Graeber & Himes, Fallbrook, California) on February 8, 2013. Specimen was collected in 2012 and the collector wrote “weltbeste Kristalle!” [World’s best crystal!] on a label given to Cal at the time. Photo by Jeff Scovil. Photos of this specimen can be found in The Mineralogical Record, Arizona Mineral Collections, 2013; 44(3) (Suppl): 201; and featured in the book, Refined Elegance (Mineralogical Record, Nov. 2022) on page 115.
