A spray of inky-green Kottigite makes up this surprisingly adorable thumbnail piece. Typically, this rare hydrated zinc arsenate is not cute. When these were discovered between the sulfide and oxide zones, miners dubbed them “Legrandite Azul,” since the famous sunshine yellow mineral also came from the same zone. Originally found in Germany, the specimens from Ojuela put this member of the Vivianite group on collectors’ radar. This spray surprisingly displays minimal damage with a contact on the backside and under hand-lens inspection a couple of missing terminations. Overall this is an exemplary piece of Kottigite!
