Exhibiting a classic, doubly terminated, tapering form, this sapphire crystal is translucent to gemmy, with a superb sky-blue color. It masses 28 grams. This is actually a very good miniature sized crystal for the species, as most are steamrolled and beaten up quite a bit in this size range. They come out of gravel deposits, generally, from this famous district. Only a few, such as this one which I obtained from a mine owner, come from fixed mines where there are still in situ, and not rolled and tumbled by the eons. The color here is actually considered quite good for a sapphire of this size from the locale. It would typically be heated to change to a uniform, more saturated color for the gem trade.
