Pezzottaite is a relatively new member of the the beryl family, a beautiful cesium rich species of beryl named after Dr. Federico Pezzotta of Milan. Crystals of this size and quality only came out in a few years in the early 2000s, culminating in one big pocket in 2003, and have not been found since. This is old material. As it turns up, it is often cut for gem rough, as well, and so specimens dwindle over time. This crystal exhibits sharp hexagonal form along with good luster and an unusually even degree of translucence. The pink color is uniform and rich, and adds considerable value to the specimen. It is a large, full thumbnail showing excellent symmetry and none of the facial pitting and cracking patterns that seem to mar so many otherwise wonderful crystals.
