The Chispas Mine of Sonora, Mexico has produced some of Mexico's and the world's best and largest specimens of polybasite crystals. This superb, very rich and showy specimen is highlighted by a sharp, lightly iridescent, metallic-bright, 2.2 cm polybasite tablet at the top. The front of this piece is composed entirely of polybasite tablets and the specimen is solid polybasite. The back of the specimen is splendent, massive polybasite with classic "ruby silver" highlights. Specimens of this quality were produced 100 years ago, from about 1900-1910. However, we have no proof, that this piece was collected in that era. This well-known Mexican locale is the subject of a fine article in the current issue of the Mineralogical Record, Vol. 39, #6, November-December, 2008.
