This is certainly one of the more uniquely shaped Heliodors we have seen from the chamber pegmatites of Ukraine, famously mined for topaz and heliodor since the 1800s or maybe before. These Ukrainian Heliodors are generally considered to set the standard for this Beryl varietal, and they certainly look gorgeous in a display case with their rich yellow-green color, brilliant luster and gemminess. What really puts them to another level, to most of us, is the intricate surface features you see, mesmerizing in detail the closer you look, especially on this one! This piece is different than all the rest which look like long cylinders with etching of some kind, and are more or less long and fat crystals. This, on the other hand, has a mesmerizingly complex shape and geometry that is simply impossible to define and certainly does not look hexagonal at face value; looking more like an archaic, gem spearpoint! It has unusual etch features and growth patterns ...and is just beautiful! It is unique in our experience, and was a piece we obtained directly from a miner's family in the nearby village.
