This superb and unusually geometric specimen is a sharp twinned rhodochrosite of a style almost never seen from any other locality - and frankly, very rare from Mont St Hilaire as well, despite decades of production. The triangle-like shapes and the deep red color make these standout. In person, it is more or less gemmy depending on backlighting but is certainly easily translucent in simple room lighting. So, it displays very well. It is a perfectly balanced, full thumbnail. The MSH suite in the collection is considered significant and something that Shields worked on for decades, often together with his friend Ernie Schlichter who had such a good MSH familiarity, himself. Competitive-level, this is a rhodo different from the rest. Note: photos show no backlighting and minimal backlighting.
