The silicate augite is usually known as a non-descript, microcrystalline rock in gabbros and basalts, but occasionally in a few places in the world (one notable one is the Eifel area of Germany) formed good and sizeable crystals. This is an old specimen out of a German collection, with a well-formed 1.5-cm crystal on matrix. 7.5 x 5.1 x 3.9cm
