This is one of the most famous red beryl (emerald) specimens in the world. It is illustrated in the Mineralogical Record several times, in the American Treasures book, and was exhibited at the AMT exhibits in Tucson 2008. The gemminess of the crystals is phenomenal! It was found by the now deceased mine owner Rex Harris at his mine in the 1980s (and he prepped it himself and repaired the top crystal, which was wiggly), and sold to Herb Obodda by his salesman at the time, the great David Wilber, in the early 1990s. Herb Obodda sold it (briefly) and then got it back a year or so later in 2001 when the Freilich collection was broken up, and kept it for himself for another decade until I purchased the Obodda collection recently. This is one of the most showy, important, and rare American specimens out there, and carries a status for owning one of the very few great matrix pieces from this mine. Only a handful of major matrix specimens are known to exist, of this magnitude. Price on Request. Joe Budd photos.
