This admittedly ugly, lumpy-looking thing is actually a superb crystal of cryolite for the locality. Cryolite here crystallizes in a unique form, quite unlike those cubic crystals from Greenland of the 1800s and early 1900s. They have been found just rarely at MSH, and to my knowledge this particular sort dates to only one pocket found about 20 years ago. I have only seen 2 others for sale over the years. Seldom do they occur so large as here, and often they are altered to other minerals. This is unalatered, gemmy, and large for the style. This one is complete all around, better in person
