This is a great old time Alpine classic! The four countries that produce the classic metamorphic Alpine are Switzerland, Austria, Italy and France. Most people are familiar with the fine Ferroaxinite specimens and top quality clamshell or helmet-shaped Prehnite specimens from this locality, but very few people know that this classic French locality is the type locality for Epidote! Epidote isn't necessarily a rare mineral, but it is highly coveted by European collectors and collectors of Alpine minerals from the famous Alpine locality. This piece is filled with dozens of sharp, prismatic, highly lustrous, very deep pistachio green crystals of Epidote measuring up to 1.6 cm intermixed with iron-stained Quartz crystals. This specimen comes with and old, European hand-written label dated 1903. 5.3 x 3.9 x 2.4cm
