Labuntsovite Group
3.6 x 3.0 x 2.5 cm. Labuntsovite is a very rare hydrated, titanium, niobium silicate found in unusual alkaline massifs, such as on the Kola Peninsula of Russia or the famous Mt. St-Hilaire of Quebec. Lustrous, orange-brown crystals to 3 mm are richly scattered on a well-placed vug on this fine specimen from the Khibiny Massif of Russia. This came from the Fersman Museum of Moscow back stock in the early 1990s, when Dmitriy Belakovskiy, then a curator there, was on loan to the Houston Museum to support the Faberge exhibit.
