A very rare, gemmy to translucent and very SHARP, Mogok sapphire from the land where Rubies rule and sapphires are few and far between. This barrel-shaped, hexagonal beauty is color zoned with one termination having a 3 mm thick medium sapphire-blue termination, the opposing end displays a light blue 2 mm zone; and there is a pale blue, diffuse, 4 mm area around the middle of the crystal for added interest. The remainder of this attractive crystal is a very pale blue to whitish gray-blue. The gem areas are distinct and the other areas are only slightly turbid and transmit light easily. The mass of this robust thumbnail Sapphire is 6.41 grams. This is EXACTLY the kind of gem crystal that doesn't normally survive, but for the intervention of a dealer who knows who to sell it to for the crystal itself, because it can be heated, treated, and enhanced to a more crisp blue color for the gemstone trade. Such crystals, in places like this, seldom come to our market. There is too much immediate incentive to treat and cut them. This is a particularly interesting crystals as it is not like most others.
