Kyanite usually appears as opaque crystals embedded in quartz, so when these came out maybe five years ago they caused quite a stir: gemmy, terminated, free-standing crystals, some of them with an amazing blue stripe running right down the middle, a truly dramatic example of crystal zoning. Here are three of these interesting crystals.
