Atacamite in large crystals is rare in nature, and most famous from old turn of the 1900s finds in Australia. Scarce for the renowned Burra Burra Copper Mine, this large, small-cabinet specimen of Atacamite would rank highly no matter what its origin. The large pocket, which completely spans the matrix, is a dense carpet of beautiful, rich Atacamites. Many of the flat-lying crystals range up to about 1 cm, and the color varies from a deep forest-green to a bright kelly-green. Move the piece around in the light, and most every exposed, kelly-green face will flash a bright, electric green, looking like a field of twinkling Irish stars. Although many crystals are damaged, many are also intact on this rich, historic specimen; and it has significance and beauty both.
