A striking large specimen from a rare locality: Colorless quartz forms the matrix for a plate of aesthetic, discrete, rich pink rhodochrosite crystals to 2.3 cm across. Minor sulfides and white calcite are also present. Dramatic and quite attractive, this is a large rhodochrosite specimen for Peru, and highly attractive. Mounted vertically on a custom base, it stands beautifully! I have seen many of this style in smaller size, but never one so large and nice. This is from the heyday at this mine of the late 1980s or early 1990s, if I had to guess. Ex. Dr. W.S. Logan Collection. Featured in his self-published book RHODOCHROSITE: Crystals of Drama and Nuance, page 112.
