Demantoid Garnet (Pseudomorph?)

This odd creature SEEMS to be a single crystal of another mineral, I know not what, that has been overgrown and deplaced with solid garnet of this rare varietal. These have trickeled out for 3-4 years now, but I have not before seen one like this. Also, the specimens tend to be smaller, mostly thumbnails or small miniature aggregations. this would be one of the larger fine examples of the type. The color is incredibly rich and juicy, like ripe lime skin. The second shot shows a closeup from the side, showing that the termination is thick and fairly euhedral, with clear faces that aren't natural to a garnet but rather look prismatic (perhaps this is after beryl? or quartz?). Fascinating, AND beautiful!
