Elmwood is renowned for its great Fluorites and Calcites, and this piece is a fine example from the locality. The main Fluorite crystal is an impressive 5.2 cm across, and it has two notable features. First, it has the classic Elmwood gemmy corners, with clear windows that allow you to see right down into the crystal. Elmwood is also famous for it strange and intriguing etched Fluorites, and on this crystal the central faces have begun to etch down into the crystal. The combination of the clear corners with etched faces is astonishing, when you look carefully and think about it. The four Sphalerites are lustrous, and only one suffered during the mining process. All are on limestone matrix. Overall, this is an excellent Elmwood specimen that is very unusual!
