Excellent crystal of the Silver mineral Stephanite, from the famous Himmelsfurst Mine in Freiberg (the TYPE LOCALITY). The metallic luster on this attractive, prismatic crystal is near-brilliant, and the Stephanite is nicely terminated. #3151 in Kay's collection, this relatively early piece was very likely mined in the 1800's, about the same time as its cousins, the famous wire Silvers. Preserved carefully in her drawers, this is an enormously important, competitive-level thumbnail specimen for its style and its provenance. A stunning, incredibly well-preserved example of a rare silver species from its most important historic locality!
