Kyanite usually appears as opaque, rather boring crystals embedded in quartz, so when these came out two or three years ago they caused quite a stir: gemmy, terminated, free-standing crystals, some of them with an amazing blue stripe running right down the middle, a truly dramatic example of crystal zoning. This is a sizeable crystal from the find, and as you can see, the color zoning is dramatic.
