The mineral collector world was shocked when Peru suddenly one-upped Canada and produced best of species augelites, in 2012-2014! This specimen features a cluster of beautiful green augelite crystals on a matrix of needle quartz from Pasto Bueno, Peru. The large, dark mint green, 2.0 cm main crystal stands straight up out of the bright, needle quartz crystals in the center of the piece displaying perfect form and is accompanied by three smaller augellite crystals intergrown with it. The augelites show distinct zoning with a lighter green interior and darker green, very distinct rims. Several other, smaller augelite crystals are scattered about on the piece and there is also one lone, 7.0 mm hubnerite crystal on the piece as well. The glassy needle quartz provides the perfect host for nesting these showy augellite crystals. A superb example for the species, with very dramatic display qualities! We purchased this piece in Peru as they came out, in around 2012.
