Rhodochrosite
Apparently a complete floater with no visible point of attachment, this rhodochrosite crystal exhibits moderate luster, translucence, and lovely rose-red color. It is one of only a half dozen specimens I have seen from a single small pocket found in the of 2013 in this gem-bearing pegmatite. So, it is surely a pegmatitic origin Rhodochrosite. And it is highly unusual in not just shape or form, but also for this locality and for Brazil in general. In fact, I tried to get all I could, but was successful in getting only a few miniatures and one more large specimen. At least two of the three I missed were sold within Brazil as cutting rough, and another was heavily damaged. Although small, these may be the only pristine ones in the pocket. I have seen no more come out since, despite keeping an eye out down there.
