This specimen is almost entirely a single large, lustrous and translucent, bicolored sapphire/ruby crystal, measuring 3.1 cm across and 2.4 cm in length. Massive, gemmy ruby serves as the matrix, of which a bit is attached to the backside. Minor contact is present on the back side where it was attached to more matrix, now removed. The termination, however, is startlingly complete and the crystal is otherwise complete on the front and both sides. This is one of the largest sharp, undamaged crystals I have seen and the zoning is particularly attractive due to the rich color contrasts. There is probably not a lot of gem value here (except for cabochons), but the sheer size of the crystal and the colorful beauty of the crystal as a specimen is certainly notable. 138 carats
