Perhaps the rarest and most classic of old USA tourmalines is to own a piece from Haddam Neck, now a developed subdivision of urban Connecticut. And this one is not just a gem tourmaline single nor is it on a regular blocky matrix... this, is on matrix of gorgeous doubly-terminated quartz! Perched in an aesthetic manner on the side of a doubly terminated, lustrous and translucent, colorless quartz crystal, measuring 3.4 cm in length, is a glassy and gemmy rich green elbaite crystal, measuring 2.5 cm in length. Stood upright, this is a small miniature. Aligned "just so" carefully in a regulation thumbnail box, it can be made to fit at a diagonal, and then it becomes a dominating, rare USA thumbnail specimen. Apparently, this has no repairs that I can spot. It is a historic treasure, from the Golden Age of American mineralogy and field collecting. The old label is dated 1894. I have never seen a thumbnail tourmaline crystal from the USA with such amazing provenance and import.
