Dumortierite is a rare aluminum boro-silicate and most of the world's most coveted examples of the species are found as inclusions in quartz, most notably from Bahia, Brazil, such as this fantastic piece. The sprays of acicular Dumortierite crystal inclusions look like blue exploding fireworks trapped in a water-clear quartz crystal! Most examples of Dumortierite included Quartz from Bahia are relatively small or are in chunks of Quartz and this is an exceptional, very showy example for the species! The Quartz crystal host here is like glass in both luster and clarity so we are able to right through the crystal and view the multitude of richly clustered, lavender blue Dumortierite at the back of the crystal! Simply mesmerizing! Very rich and unusually fine for this material.
