This malachite pseudomorph has phenomenal deep rich color, and velvety luster, and also sharp crystals that together sets it to a level above most such pieces. It is clearly old material from the first and upper oxidation zone as judged by the association with bayldonite (the pistachio-green mineral below) which was found there in this style (late 1800s-WWI era of mining). The specimen was in the collection of heiress and collector Grace Dearborn, which was sold off by dealer Phil Scalisi in the 1970s. He kept this in his own collection for some years as well. It is a superb, 3-dimensional specimen of highly unusual aspect. I have seen very FEW examples of this style of malachite from Tsumeb, with such intensity. the color contrast really adds to the piece, as well.
