Tremolite (Var: Hexagonite)
This is a RARE and INCREDIBLY large and rich specimen of hexagonite out of the Elling Collection. Hexagonite is a monoclinic variety of the also rarely crystallized (but otherwise common) mineral tremolite. This variety gets its purple-red color from manganese content. It is known ONLY from two counties in New York State and nowhere else, in this quality and coloration. This large matrix is MOSTLY made up of hexagonite with a few sharp crystals mixed in - no doubt if you slivered it or cleaved it, you could make a few dozen specimens. You just do not see these around; and it's pretty and historic as well.
