Embolite is an old-time synonym for bromian chlorargyrite and is a rare member of the group of related silver chlorides. This is a significant, old-time, very rich and very rare ore specimen from the famous Leadville District, Colorado. Only two Leadville mines are reported to have produced this silver species, the Matchless Mine and the Evening Star Mine. Parallel bands of waxy luster, olive-green bromian chlorargyrite richly cover the front of this hefty, quartz-rich ore. Bromian chlorargyrite is hardly ever available from Leadville and I would suspect that this piece is around 100 years old. Weighs 222 grams. Ex. Robert Whitmore Collection.
