When this mining area was in its heyday in the 1970's, it produced the world's finest blue topaz, and hydroxyl-herderite. Much less known were fine elbaite crystals like this translucent, lustrous indicolite specimen. An eye pleasing blue-green color along with a sculptural quality depicted by the multiple, terminated, side car crystals, highlights this specimen. It is very hefty and unusually large for a Virgem de Lapa piece. The back or non-viewing side does have some damage, but does not affect the quality of the specimen. It is a very cheap price for such a large, unrepaired tourmaline!!!
