This unique specimen is one of our favorite sphalerites in the collection, with preferential dissolution of the fluorite giving a really neat textural contrast to the razor sharp sphalerite. An undulating slab of lustrous and translucent, purple fluorite, to 1.4 cm thick is the matrix for doubly terminated, splendent, black sphalerite crystals, to 1.4 cm across, which also exhibit the occasional red highlight. Mined from the Butterknife Pod and ex. Ross Lillie collection. RCL#2147. His label denotes it as "Permanent Collection. Excellent" and dates to 1990.
