This is an outstanding combination piece from the well-known Dzhezkazgan mine. Bornite crystals are quite rare, worldwide, and this mine produced some of the world's finest in the 1990s to early 2000s. These crystals range up to 2.5 cm and the larger crystals are twinned. The luster is very good; dark and metallic with a golden iridescence that has flashes of blue, purple, and red. The Bornites are distributed nicely on the Dolomite crystal matrix, themselves underlain by Quartz crystals. Classic and highly representative material from this well-known locality, these are now available only from recycled collections. Even amongst all I have seen, this would be, for the isolation and quality, and the contrast, one of the finest examples.
