Emplaced on a matrix of basalt is a thin crust of drusy, colorless quartz upon which are aesthetically perched a few scalenohedral, tan-colored calcite crystals to 6 cm in length. Those are nice in their own right, and the piece is attractive just for those two species. But the real highlight are the unusual, rare red fluorites; discrete hemispheres of lustrous, rust-red fluorite to 2 cm across are scattered on the calcite crystals. This is a unique color for fluorite, and the botyoidal habit itself is very rare for the species. Overall, an aesthetic, interesting, and rare combination specimen.
