This is a 2 for 1 set of "rough and cut": The partially glassy and gemmy light champagne-colored crystal measures 5.7 cm in length. It is a superb example of the large phenakite crystals which briefly came out of Madagascar in the late 1990s. It was formerly in the noted collection of Martin Zinn (sold in 2003), and is a major example for the locality and the species for its size and crystal habit. It is complete all around. The 10.85 carat, pear shaped cut stone exhibits only a few inclusions, only seen under a 30 power hand lens. It has an exquisite light champagne color unique to this deposit, and is cut from material of the same find. The gem is 1.6 x 1.3 x 0.9 cm. A custom stand displays the two together. As for values, I would value the crystal at the listed price for both; and the gem is a bonus probably worth a few thousand $$ on its own, especially as the species is in vogue with "crystal healing" enthusiasts at moment.
