Gemmy green crystals of barite to 1.5 cm in size in a cluster with little attached matrix. This is in good condition. The green color is due to the presence of malachite.The Shangulowe Mine, located near Kambove in the Haut-Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is a notable sediment-hosted copper and cobalt deposit. Originally established under Belgian colonial rule by Union Miniere du Haut-Katanga, the mine has experienced intermittent periods of industrial operation and care-and-maintenance status throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, currently being held under the state-owned enterprise Gecamines. Geologically, the deposit is situated within the Central African Copperbelt, where mineralization is hosted in Neoproterozoic sedimentary rocks of the Roan Group (specifically within the Mines Subgroup). The orebody features complex structural folding and faulting, characterized by rich supergene oxidation zones containing notable specimens of secondary copper minerals, malachite, and associated barite.
