An unusually fine example of an American classic, this large and exceptional crystal of Franklinite sits prominently on a matrix of contrasting Calcite from the Sterling Hill Mine at Franklin; and has great provenance coming from the Richard Bostwick collection; and being on display at the Sterling Hill Mining Museum. The perfectly formed, black, sub-metallic Franklinite is dominated by octahedral faces, however, there are at least two other form modifications making it geometrically interesting and very unlike the majority of Franklinte crystals we usually see that are are predominantly octahedral! The crystal measures 2.7 cm in maximum dimension and is prominently displayed atop the pinkish, contrasting Calcite matrix. This is a rare display-quality rarity of a classic Franklin-Sterling Hill mineral, and they are also by far world's best of species. The Calcite fluoresces a vivid red under shortwave UV! An exceptional small cabinet Franklinite piece that was on display at Sterling Hill Mineral Museum North Ore Body exhibit for decades, on loan from the collection of Richard Bostwick (which we recently purchased a large part of).
