Colorless lustrous cubic crystals of fluorite on matrix. Some damage present, still quite nice for a large example from this locality.Coldstones Quarry, located near Greenhow in North Yorkshire, England, is an active large-scale limestone quarry operating at high elevations within the Nidderdale area. Geologically, the site extracts the Lower Carboniferous Hardraw Scar Limestone of the Alston Formation, which is cut by several mineralized veins associated with the Northern Pennine Orefield. Mineralogically, these strongly oxidized veins feature an exceptional array of secondary and supergene mineral species, including fluorite, baryte, hemimorphite, smithsonite, and cerussite, alongside rare occurrences such as prosopite, doyleite, and otavite. Historically, the surrounding Greenhow hill area has a rich industrial heritage dating back centuries, with extensive local lead and barytes mining alongside lime burning, while commercial limestone quarrying at Coldstones itself began around 1800 and continues to the present day.
