Nice European classic, an open pocket 1.7 cm across his lined with dark sparkling blue crystals of azurite. In good condition. The specimen comes with an antique label from Dr. Krantz in Bonn, GermanyThe Banat Mountains in southwestern Romania, particularly around classic mining districts like Oravita and Moldova Noua, boast a rich mining history dating back to Roman antiquity, with modern commercial operations expanding significantly during the 18th and 19th centuries under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Geologically, the region is characterized by complex skarn deposits formed through the intrusion of Cretaceous and Paleogene banatite magmatic rocks into older limestone and sedimentary sequences, creating ideal conditions for hydrothermal mineralization. Mineralogically, the district is world-famous for producing exceptional secondary copper minerals, most notably magnificent, deep blue azurite crystals often associated with brilliant green malachite.
