Choice for this old locality, brilliant blue bladed crystals of azurite to 0.5 cm in size scattered nicely across the top of matrix. In very good condition.The Banat Mountains in southwestern Romania, particularly around classic mining districts like Oravita and Moldova Noua, boast a rich mining history dating back to Roman antiquity, with modern commercial operations expanding significantly during the 18th and 19th centuries under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Geologically, the region is characterized by complex skarn deposits formed through the intrusion of Cretaceous and Paleogene banatite magmatic rocks into older limestone and sedimentary sequences, creating ideal conditions for hydrothermal mineralization. Mineralogically, the district is world-famous for producing exceptional secondary copper minerals, most notably magnificent, deep blue azurite crystals often associated with brilliant green malachite.
