A single perfect octahedron, 2.4 cm on edge, is perched on sparing quartz matrix on this balanced miniature which looks as if it were carved of wax. It has such geometric perfection, it is hard to believe the perch is real at this angle (but it is). Such single crystals on matrix like this are uncommon, amongst a crowd of floating loose crystals and clusters. This has a perfect poise and balance. Discovered in a single large pocket of August of 2019 (we were there 3 weeks after, chasing them down as it got dispersed from north to south of China!), these sharp, pink octahedral fluorite crystals are now legendary for their razor-sharp form and gemmy rose-pink color, often featuring delicate fibrous byssolite or actinolite needle inclusions such as you see here. The trick is balance: not too many inclusions, and spread throughout the crystal. In this case, it works to create an elegant combination. That being said, the needles inside are not obvious unless you backlight it, so you can choose the degree of mineral combination you wish to show.
