Attractive gem crystal of elbaite. In good condition. The Cruzeiro Mine, located in Minas Gerais, Brazil, began formal commercial operations in 1940 within a region historically explored for precious stones. Geologically, the deposit consists of complex granitic pegmatite dikes that intruded into local metamorphic rocks, creating zoned internal structures driven by fractional crystallization and volatile-rich fluids. Historically developed as a major industrial and artisanal mining source, the district gained worldwide renown for producing exceptional gem elbaite. Elbaite, a lithium and sodium bearing member of the tourmaline group, is heavily prized by collectors and gemologists at Cruzeiro for its striking prismatic crystals, remarkable transparency, and vivid color variations ranging from deep greens and blues to brilliant rubellite pinks and multi-colored zones.
