A set of two lustrous dark green epidote crystal groupings. In good condition.Green Monster Mountain, located on Prince of Wales Island in southeastern Alaska, is a historic skarn deposit with a mining history dating back to the early 20th century, particularly around 1905 when copper exploration and extraction began. Geologically, the area is characterized by Paleozoic and Mesozoic sedimentary and volcanic rocks that were intruded by Cretaceous and Tertiary granitic plutons, creating favorable contact metamorphic conditions. Mineralogically, the site is world-renowned for its diverse and well-crystallized skarn assemblages, most famously producing exceptional specimens of epidote, along with various copper sulfides, magnetite, and garnet.
