Lustrous black twinned crystals of sphalerite measuring to 1.7 cm in size acrostic quartz crystal coated matrix with galena and pyrite. In great condition. The Boldut Mine, situated within the Cavnic mining district of Maramures County, Romania, is part of a historic mining area documented as early as 1336, with systematic industrial-scale operations and deep vein extraction expanding significantly from around 1875 until its final closure in the mid-2000s. Geologically, the deposit lies within the Neogene volcanic belt of the Inner Carpathians, where intense calc-alkaline magmatic and hydrothermal activity emplaced rich polymetallic veins into volcanic and sedimentary host rocks. The mine became globally renowned among geologists and mineral collectors for producing exceptional crystallized specimens of base and precious metal sulfides, alongside carbonate and sulfate gangue minerals such as quartz, dolomite, rhodochrosite, calcite, and gypsum.
