Scalenohedral crystals of calcite, some double terminated and measuring to 8.5 cm in length, across the top of a quartz matrix. This is in terrific condition. The Droujba mine is situated in the Laki ore district within the Rhodope Mountains of the Plovdiv Province in southern Bulgaria. Historically, the area has a long tradition of metal extraction dating back centuries for base metals. Geologically, the deposit is part of a major polymetallic province hosted within complex metamorphic and Cenozoic volcanic-tectonic structures. Intense hydrothermal activity historically channeled mineral-rich fluids through major fault zones, producing rich vein systems and replacement bodies containing galena, sphalerite, quartz, and calcite.
