A cluster of sharp lustrous twinned sphalerite crystals, these partially coated with white crystals of dolomite. In great condition. Neat combination piece.The Trepca complex in Kosovo, with mining activities dating back to Roman and medieval times and modern industrial operations established in the 1920s, grew to become one of the largest and most productive lead, zinc, and silver mining operations in Europe. Geologically, the deposit is situated within the Kopaonik block of the western Vardar zone and is hosted primarily within recrystallized Upper Triassic limestones. The mineralization is characterized by complex skarn and hydrothermal replacement ore bodies formed by Tertiary magmatic activity, yielding a rich variety of metallic sulphides and world-renowned mineral specimens.
