Purple translucent sharp cubic crystals of fluorite to 4.5 cm on edge across the top of matrix. This is in very good condition. From the very early 1990s or late 1980s.The Annabel Lee Mine, located in Hardin County, Illinois, was operated by the Ozark-Mahoning Company and stood as the final active underground fluorspar mine in the historic Illinois-Kentucky mining district before closing in 1995 due to foreign market competition. Geologically, the mine was situated within the Cave-in-Rock subdistrict and targeted bedded replacement deposits of fluorite, sphalerite, and galena. These economic mineral deposits formed via hydrothermal solutions moving along major fault trends and replacing specific, chemically favorable Mississippian limestone strata.
