Several generations of crystallized calcite in a grouping 10.5 cm in height coming off of a matrix with quartz and pyrite. This is in great condition. The Mogilata deposit, located within the Septemvri Mine of the Madan ore field in Smolyan, Bulgaria, has a long history of lead-zinc mining dating back to antiquity, with organized extraction spanning from Thracian and Roman times through to modern industrial operations. Geologically, the deposit is part of the Madan-Rhodope metallogenic province, characterized by hydrothermal vein and metasomatic ore bodies hosted in metamorphic rocks cut by Tertiary magmatic intrusions. The mineralizations consist primarily of galena, sphalerite, pyrite, and chalcopyrite housed within quartz-carbonate and skarn-like gangue assemblies, renowned worldwide for yielding exceptional crystal specimens.
