This is a fine example of the well-known Tourmalines mined at the renowned Himalaya Mine in San Diego County during the 1980s, and a rare combination that gives it a balance and uniqueness that many "small" specimens in this size range cannot attain. GEMMY through and through, the crystal grades from a pastel-green in the lower half to a very rich 'Himalaya pink-red' in the upper half. There is pink and pink-red...this is on the more saturated side of the curve. The glassy luster is outstanding, and the termination is flat, smooth, and lustrous. No repairs or restorations! Associated is a patch of uncommon, pearlescent Stilbite (yes, sometimes, but rarely, you do find zeolites in a pegmatite) and several books of purple Lepidolite. This beauty weighs 54 g total,. A classic, multi-color example of a Himalaya Elbaite with a Stilbite association. From a truly historic U.S. locality, it was formerly in the miniatures collection of Irv Brown (who obtained it from Bill Larson, who collected it). Note the first photo shows stronger backlighting, which shows off the green color.
