Jinlong Hill is known for its compelling Hematite and Quartz combinations, and first produced by the late 1990s although each yearly mining season has produced some subtly different style, by and large. This came out in around 2018-19 and has a particular unique sparkle and look to it, that is hard to convey in photos. The finely-bladed, lamellar Hematites have superb metallic luster that makes the rounded clusters simply shine 'black'. The are four main, rounded clusters, each approaching 3 cm across. Towards one side is an architectural cluster of bright, totally gemmy clear Quartz crystals. The tallest of these is also 3 cm or so, and they provide a remarkable contrast in form and color to the Hematites. In fact, the Quartz displays so dramatically and with such incredible contrast in luster and form, it leaps out at the eye: I can't help but think of the famous Egremont Calcites that display so similarly. On its own merits, this small-cabinet specimen has a transcendent, crisp aesthetic created by the perfection of both the Hematite and the Quartz. I've seen a lot of these, and this is one of my favorites for beauty and balance, both. This was not a large find, perhaps 100 pieces and less, mostly damaged. We bought these just before Covid prevented travel there, if I recall.
