A quintessential example of the famous Azurite 'suns' from the Malbunka Copper Mine in Australia. The Azurites from this underground mine form between layers of kaolinite, and were forced to grow in a laterally compressed, radiating manner that created these famous and unique specimens. This piece features a rich, two-tone blue, compressed 'rosette' of Azurite measuring an impressive 6 cm across, sitting on typical colonized siltstone matrix. They have to be expertly separated to reveal the treasures inside, and still keep them intact. These unmistakable specimens are well-known for their distinctive form and lovely contrast best associated with this locality. This is a beautiful, cabinet-sized example of these delightful Azurites. Formerly in the outstanding collection of Al and Sue Liebetrau. There are bigger, and specimens with more suns - but this is a particularly aesthetic and balanced piece, and those are hard to come by.
