Very neat locality example showing a massive black allanite-Ce.The pegmatites of Llano County, located in the Llano Uplift region of central Texas, have a long history of geological study and limited artisanal prospecting dating back to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Geologically, these granitic pegmatites intruded into older Precambrian metamorphic rocks, such as the Valley Spring Gneiss and Packsaddle Schist, during major regional tectonic events. These coarse-grained intrusive bodies are enriched in rare earth elements, yttrium, and actinides. Consequently, the Llano County pegmatites are well known among mineral collectors and researchers for producing notable specimens of allanite-(Ce), often found as dark, pitch-black, prismatic crystals embedded within the feldspar and quartz matrix.
